Why Not Africa FAQs
What do I need to bring with me on an African tour?
Many people think of Africa as sunny year-round. However, depending on when and where you travel, it can be chilly, especially at night. But never fear! When you travel with us, we will send you an information pack, which includes a list of recommended items.
What do you supply for us to use on your African tours?
As well as the tour inclusions (of course), we will always have fruit and water in the car, as well as basic items you can use such as a medical kit first-aid kit.
Will I get malaria if I travel to Africa?
Malaria is only an issue in certain parts of Africa, at certain times of year. We try to avoid these areas as much as possible. If it is unavoidable, we will let you know before we travel, in which case you would need to take malaria tablets.
Can we customise your tours?
We can set up custom tours for you if you wish at additional costs. For more information on this option, click here.
Is your guide qualified?
Ashton and Karl (your hosts) have plenty of experience in the travel industry, including running tours in South Africa. Our driver Liezl is currently a certified tour guide with a public driver’s permit. Liezl will be on all tours, while Karl and Ashton will join any groups over six (unless pre-arranged).
Are we allowed to leave the group at any time?
Depending on where we are and what we’re doing, there is a level of flexibility. Also keep in mind we do have free time at most of our activities. If you still want to leave the group however, you always need to let us know well in advance before you leave, both for logistical and personal reasons.
Am I allowed to skip or miss activities?
If you do not want to take part in an activity for any reason, that is completely your choice. However, keep in mind that you will not receive any rebate for this.
How safe is Africa?
To be completely honest, it depends on where you go. However, the safest way you can travel through Africa is in a tour group. As well as having experienced guides with street smarts like us, tours are generally treated with more respect and threats tend to stay away from bigger groups of people. When you travel with us, we will send you an information pack that covers this topic extensively.
Is Africa LGBTQIA+ friendly?
Certain countries are more accepting than others. However, the tours are led by a LGBTQIA+ couple, and they have taken special care to make sure all locations are LGBT friendly, whether accommodation or activities. More specific details will be in the information pack you receive when travelling with us
